Lovely small ornamental grass with velvety soft flower heads

Create the perfect environment for a successful cultivation process. Garden in the Bag provides the nurturing substrate in the practical standup bag. Just add water and watch as the dried, light block produces abundant cultivation substrate for your seeds in just a few minutes.

The annual Bunny Tail Grass grows up to 60 cm tall. It develops only single, upright stalks with grey-green coloured, flat and velvety haired leaves. The funny part of the grass are the characteristic 40 cm long peduncles with its velvet, silvery-white flowers that show between April and June, depending on the geographic location. With a light breeze they amusingly look like a wagging bunny’s tail. The grass is suited for either fresh or dried flower arrangements and can easily be cultivated as a solitary tub plant for your porch or in the garden.

Natural location: Originally the Bunny Tail Grass comes from the Mediterranean region and from the western European Atlantic Coast that is climatically favoured by the Gulf Stream.

Cultivation: Seed propagation indoors is possible throughout the year. Gently press the seeds into moist potting compost that ideally contains about 25% of perlite for a better permeation. Cover the seed container with clear film to prevent the earth from drying out, but don’t forget to make some holes in the clear film and take it every second or third day completely off for about 2 hours. That way you avoid mold formation on your potting compost. Place the seed container somewhere bright and warm with a temperature between 20° and 25° Celsius and keep the earth moist, but not wet. The best way to do so, is by daily using the water sprayer to moisten the soil. Usually it takes about two to three weeks until germination.

Place: The plant prefers a very bright and up to full sunny place.

Care: The Bunny Tail Grass grows best in a loose, permeable and dry-warm soil.

During winter: The Bunny Tail Grass is an annual plant. You can still enjoy the looks of the grass when it is covered with hoarfrost in the winter season, before you take it out all together in spring.

Bonsai ability: No
