An officer in the Roman army, Florian privately embraced Christianity. It is said that with a single pail of water he kept a town from burning to the ground. He is the patron of things associated with fire for this act. Florian was Martyred during the persecutions of Diocletian, refusing to murder Christians and professing his own faith. b. c.250, d. c.304, Enns River.   Patronage: Firefighters, Chimney sweeps, Soap makers, Linz, Austria.
