ICONIC Black 232L “KING PYRAMID” DATED 1946 WITH DIAL-A-TONE CONVERTERFully restored to a high standard and ready to plug in and use.HISTORYIn 1929 the revolutionary and beautifully styled pyramid shaped tele 162 table telephones were first introduced in the United Kingdom. They were first made by Siemens and superseded the fantastic era of the ‘Candlestick’ telephone. The GPO version originally required a separate bell set.In the early 1930’s it was quite normal to have a separate bell set, usually the bell set was wall mounted in the entrance hall and the telephone would be placed anywhere to suite the customer. It was also possible to mount the pyramid on top of the bell set to create what was known as a King Pyramid. In 1934 the tele 162 was replaced be the tele 232 which looked identical, the difference being that the 232 contained an improved ASTIC circuit which vastly improved sound quality.Later versions of the 232 were fitted with a drawer in the base so that people could put their contact phone numbers within. This telephone has been fitted with a reproduction handset cord and connecting cord of the highest quality available. The phone is in remarkable condition considering its age, with a good colour match which would indicate that it has not been kept in sun light. It is original with no cracks or noticeable damage. These telephones were produced in black, ivory, red and green. I think we all know the rarity of the red and green Bakelite versions and the prices they fetch today.
