FRANCE: Military Medal of the Great War Volunteers on original ribbon, with a rare bar for Voluntary Service.

The medal was institued right after the end of WWI. Despite the fact that this is an unofficial medal (that was forbiden to be worm on uniform) the returning to civil life, veterans used to wear it with pride.

The are several versions of this medal.

In 1935, French Républic institued the Cross of Volunteers Combatants to reward officially the volunteers of the Great War.
