HISTORY OF THE 15TH BATTALION AIF 1914-1918 ' by Lieut.T.P.Chataway.
Chataway joined the 15th Battalion on the 9/10/1914. He was with the Battalion
at its Landing on Gallipoli. On the 10/5/1915, he was defending Quinn's Post
when he was wounded in action. His neck wound was serious and he did not rejoin
the 15th Battalion until January 1916. He was commissioned in France.

This is the Official Battalion History compiled and written with the assistance of the 15th Battalion Association, numerous battalion members, and many written documents/diary/information. During the mid 1930's Chataway had extensive press releases in Tasmanian and Queensland newspapers asking for contributions. The Author took over 10 years to write the History.

Three-quarters of the battalion were recruited as volunteers from Queensland, and the rest from Tasmania. With the 13th, 14th and 16th Battalions it formed the 4th Brigade, commanded at that time, by the famous Australian Colonel John Monash. The book chronicles the 15th Battalion's 1st AIF history from its formation and training in Victoria & Egypt. The 15th landed at ANZAC late in the afternoon of 25 April 1915.

The Battalion immediately climbed the steep ridge above Monash valley. The ground was lost and retaken again by glorious charge of the 15^th Battalion members. The defensive post where they fought was named in honour after a 15^th Battalion Officer, Major Hugh Quinn who was assisted by Captain Jack Walsh to establish the post. Large Turkish attacks in April and May 1915 were repulsed in part by Battalion members at Quinn’s Post.  Major Quinn was killed leading a charge against Turks who had gained a foothold in the trenches on 29 May 1915. The 15^th Battalion suffered severe losses at Quinn’s. Charles Bean described the holding of Quinn's as among the Australian Imperial Force finest feats. 
Family of the members of the 15^th Battalion can be justifiably proud of their Relations efforts during the Gallipoli Campaign. 
This Battalion History Book includes all the indepth details of the Battalion's exploits on Gallipoli and the many Battles on the Western Front (see below).
