Haute Silesie - CGHS

1 of Commission de Gouvernement Haute Silesie - CGHS
1 Mark, 7-2-(19)22 cancellation date
Upper Silesia was part of Germany before the First World War. Under the Treaty of Versailles after Germany's defeat this region was offered a referendum on whether it should remain German or join the newly-formed state of Poland. After the plebiscite on 20th March 1921 it was divided between Germany and Poland. This stamp was issued by the Allied commission supervising the referendum for use until the territory's final status was determined.
