DESIGNER/COMPANY/COUNTRY: Accessocraft (1930-1998): Founded in New York City in 1930 by Edgar Rodelheimer and Theodore Steinman, the company began by producing Art Deco jewelry which was all the rage in the twenties and thirties. Later, a wide variety of jewelry and accessories were manufactured such as belts, buckles, clips, shoe and purse ornaments, tie and collar clips, as well as theater binoculars and magnifiers. During WWII, they made jewelry for the war relief effort and then post-war produced items influenced by Renaissance, Victorian, Art Nouveau and Rococco styles. Pieces were often adorned with brightly-hued enameling, high-quality faux pearls, Czech and semi-precious stones, to name a few. Their reputation for producing quality goods led Accessocraft to garner licensing agreements with fashion designer Pauline Trigere (who purchased jewelry from a number of manufacturers including Schreiner), and a line was produced in conjunction with Anne Klein as well. Theodore’s son, Paul Steinman, ran the company until its closure in 1998.
