This is an original October 1969 issue of Playboy Magazine, and it's part of a trove of magazines we retrieved from a longtime collector. He kept his collection in the basement, and the condition of individual issues ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "space filler" (a CGC 1 or 2). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. This is the last of the three Playboy covers that model Paulette Lindberg graced, and the second in 1969 (see the May issue for her other). Pictorials in this issue include an unlikely staged bit of humor called "War Games" — men in uniform encountering civilians in a state of undress — and there's one on the sexual revue "Oh, Calcutta!" which played in the West End and on Broadway, and which has since enjoyed several long-running revivals. Fiction contributions come from Isaac Bashevis Singer, Harry Brown, and Asa Baber. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as an article entitled "Pot: A Rational Approach" by Joel Fort, MD. Jean Bell is the centerfold, and the interview is with "Laugh-In" creators Dan Rowan and Dick Martin.

The condition of this issue is a high 7, flirting with 8. Most of the condition issues are on the covers, which show light-to-moderate wear/handing. We've provided accurate images of this particular issue, so look them over; we think it presents well regardless. Aside from the covers though, there's not a lot to write home about -- all pages are present (including the centerfold), the staple binding is secure with no tears around them, and there isn't any "basement smell" that sometimes afflicts magazine collections — there's just the smell of ink and paper. It even still has its annual Jazz & Pop Poll ballot intact, along with all the business-reply cards that most people tear out as soon as they can. There is some very minor ink transfer on the back cover in the white margin from the issue it was stored against for decades but, altogether, we think this it would be difficult to find a specimen in significantly better condition than this.
