Vintage JOHNSON BROTHERS "Old Britain Castles" Brown Multicolor English Ironstone Dinnerware.

Pattern Description: Brown/Multicolor Castles & Flowers. Made in England. Discontinued. Actual: 1930 - 1960's? Johnson Brothers produced numerous transferware patterns for its plates, platters, and pitchers. The firm is most often associated with patterns featuring wild turkeys or the scenes in the Historic America series. Summer Chintz was another favorite, as were the Old Britain Castles from the late 1920s, which were engraved by an artist identified only as Miss Fennel, the daughter of a master engraver.

Condition:
There are no chips or cracks or repairs. Crazing appears on several pieces, as does staining of the crazing, so common for English Ironstone. These are noted in the detailed descriptions below.

* 7 - Flat Cups, Design Inside, 2-1/4" Height x 3-1/2" Width x 4-3/8" Length (at Handle) - Pattern: Stratford-on-Avon in 1792 and Penshurst Kent in 1792. 
* 6 - Saucer Plates for Flat Cups, 5-5/8" Width - Pattern: Kenilworth Castle in 1792
* 6 - Lg. Saucer Plates for Flat Cups, 5-7/8" Width - Pattern: Kenilworth Castle in 1792. Moderate crazing on two
* 1 - Gravy Boat, 3-5/8" Height x 3-3/4" Width x 7-5/8" Length (at Spout & Handle). - Pattern: Runneymede or Magna Charta Island and Rochester Castles Bridge in 1792
* 1 - 9" Oval Vegetable Bowl, 9" Length x 7-1/4" Width x 2-1/4" Height. Pattern: Ragland Castle in 1792. Moderate Crazing (see photos).
* 1 - 8" Round Vegetable Bowl, 8-5/8" Width x 2-1/2" Height. Pattern: Ruthin Castle in 1792. Light Crazing (see photos)
