The porcelain lamp in a baluster form is mounted with a pair of handles in gilt bronze. One side of the porcelain body is elegantly painted with a lady and an angel surrounded by a heavy gold decoration in relief and signed by the artist at lower right, whereas another side is painted with a golden wreath over a yellow background. The lamp harp in brass finish is seated atop of the cap, which however is made of iron that can be attracted to a magnet. The socket on the saddle is marked “Leviton, Made in USA, 250W, 250V, Press”. The base is composed of two layers linked by a stem to the porcelain body. Both the edges of the cap and base are decorated with geometric and floral motifs. An underneath velvet is used for protection. The electrified lamp functions well.
Sevres porcelain factory was first established in France in 1738 at the Chateau de Vincennes to produce its hand painted and heavily gilded table wares. The factory was relocated in 1756 to Sevres, outskirts of Paris near Versailles, for larger production facilities.
