Asparagus (Asparagus
officinalis) is a thermophilic herb with a fleshy rhizome. At one place can
grow up to 15-20 years and give a crop of shoots. Very valuable diet and
medical culture. It treats dropsy, cystitis, renal stone disease, hypertension,
dilates peripheral vessels and improves the function of the liver. Asparagus is
propagated mainly by seeds, which are soaked in warm water for 3-4 days before
sowing, changing the water daily. Sow at a depth of 3-4 cm to 2 seeds in a nest
at a distance of 10 cm from each other. In the fall, the regrown stalks are cut
and removed, and the remaining roots are covered with a small layer of humus,
leaves, compost, etc. In the 2nd year, saplings swoop on ridges 40 cm apart
from each other. After 3-4 weeks, test the survival rate of the plants and
plant new ones. When the height of the stems reaches 15 cm, soil is poured into
the furrows and the soil is leveled. In the fall, the stems are again mown and
burned. Harvesting young shoots of asparagus begin with a 3-year plantation in
early spring. First, harvested asparagus grown under the ground, and then
shoots grown 15-20 cm above the soil level. Shoots need to be collected every
day, as they grow very quickly. Shoots immediately need to be wrapped in
plastic and refrigerated.
