With the goal to spread Japanese culture across the globe, he published a series of small crepe-paper bound Japanese fairy stories which were translated into such languages as German, Spanish, French, and English by foreign contemporaries living in Japan. The Wooden Bowl is a well-known tale, and a variation even features in Andrew Lang's Violet Fairy Book.
