The British Pop-Diva Vera Lynn started her professional recording career as a bandsinger in 1935, although she had been active in showbusiness since she was seven years old. In 1952 Vera's British recording of a German song, Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart topped the American Record Charts. It was the first British record to top the American charts and be Number One of both sides of the Atlantic. Britain had no record charts at that time it was the Sheet Music Charts where it held top spot for ten weeks. However when Britain's first Record Chart appeared in November of that year, such was her popularity, Vera held three positions in the Top 10 with Forget Me Not, Homing Waltz and of course Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart.

Vera Lynn made fivehundred tracks since her first single in 1936. Among this body of work were fourteen German language songs, that she recorded between 1955 and 1959 in either London or Berlin. These are all on this CD, plus two German songs sung in English that we have added, her hit Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart and Du bist mein Liebchen.
