A sad & evocative

World War Two German

Kriegsmarine

Im Memorium Death Card

(Sterbebild)

for

Matrosen-Gefreiten

Karl-Heinz Koch

crew-man aboard

Unterseeboot U-756

Commanded by

Kapitanleutnant Klaus Harney

and part of the

6th U-boot Flottilla

based at Wilhelmshaven,

U-756 was a Type VIIC submarine that

was lost just 18 days into its first deployment.

Depth-charged by a Canadian Corvette

HMCS Morden

in the North Atlantic on September 3rd 1942,

all 43 crew members tragically went down with the submarine.

Gefreiter Karl-Heinz Koch

is remembered on the

Kriegsmarine's

U-boot Ehrenmal

at Moeltenort in Kiel

A 'double card' death card

measuring approx 6" x 4.5" and in good condition,

it features Karl-Heinz in his

'Donald Duck' Tellermutze & Reefer Jacket,

and is a sad but impressive wee document from the

Second World War German Home Front...
