Hello, we are White Oak Audio Design! Description of Item: White Oak Audio offers the premier PL700B and PL700 Series 2 Capacitor Upgrade Kits on the web. These are professional-class upgrade products, meticulously engineered to look and perform better than the original. NOT NOS CAPACITORS. THESE ARE BRAND NEW CAPACITORS CUSTOM MANUFACTURED TO OUR SPECIFICATIONS. Do you own a Phase Linear 700B or 700 Series 2 Amplifier (the one with the 2 big VU meters or LED Cylon meters)? It is a great amplifier but it has always been deficient in bulk storage capacitance in the power supply. Coupled with that, 40+ years has taken its toll on the performance quality of the original capacitors installed in your amp. You are not getting the bass punch that this amp is capable of and you are living with a noise floor that is far worse than it can be. Here is your opportunity to replace the original pair of 9,800 uF 100V capacitors (some vintage PL700s may have differing values if changed by a prior owner) with a high-quality, long-life 15,000 uF 160V replacement pair. DO NOT REPLACE THE ORIGINAL CAPS WITH 100V CAPACITORS! THE POWER RAILS IN THE PL700, PL700B and PL700S2 TYPICALLY RUN 100-105VDC. Capacitors made new today do not have the extra margin that the original capacitors Phase Linear used and you could end up with a mess to clean up inside your amp if you use under rated capacitors. For reliability and long life, you should operate electrolytic capacitors at a maximum of 80% of the rated voltage. 80% of these premium 160V caps is 128V leaving you with plenty of margin. DON'T CHANCE YOUR COLLECTIBLE AMP with 100V caps!! New capacitor specifications: Diameter: 2.5", 64.3mm Length: 4.13", 105mm body length; 4.38", 111.5mm overall to top of terminals Screw Terminal Thread: 5mm x 0.8 metric thread, while very close to 10-32 thread, DO NOT USE 10-32 SCREWS, those are slightly smaller in diameter and will lead to stripping out the screw threads. Total capacitance per capacitor: 15,000 +/-20% uF vs. 9,800 uF original (some vintage PL700s may have differing values) DC working voltage per capacitor: 160V steady state/200V surge vs. 100V steady state/125V surge original Capacitor maximum operating temperature: 105 degrees C vs 85 degrees C original Capacitor maximum ripple current: 10A maximum at 120 Hz, 105 degrees C for each capacitor Capacitor maximum ESR: 0.016 ohms maximum at 120 Hz, 20 degrees C for each capacitor This upgrade assembly is easy to install but requires some skill. While installation is not a difficult procedure, the installer should be familiar and comfortable with working on electronic equipment and using associated tools and observing proper safety practices. If you are not familiar with working on electronic equipment or do not possess the proper equipment, it is recommended that you take your amplifier to a service technician that can perform the Capacitor Upgrade installation for you. Applicability of Kit: The White Oak Audio Design PL700 Capacitor Upgrade Kit replaces only original Phase Linear 700s that are equipped with 2.5" diameter by 4.125 long screw terminal capacitors as shown in the above figures. It is not for replacement of any other type capacitors or terminal configuration. If your original Phase Linear amplifier does not match these requirements, do not install this kit without contacting White Oak Audio Design first for guidance.
