HOPALONG CASUALTY

Directed by Chuck Jones

The endless pursuit of the Road Runner by the stubborn but persistent Wile E. Coyote (Hard Hedipus Ravenus) has provided audiences with some of the heartiest laughs in movie history. In this 1960 short, Wile E. again faces the painful consequences of trying to catch the cheery and lightning-fast Road Runner and, in doing so, encounters a telephone pole, a speeding truck, and his own dynamite trap--all in the first sixty seconds! In this Limited Edition Sericel, we find Wile E. at his most hopeful point, so near and yet so far away.

Classic animation is the art of bringing to life single drawings to create the illusion of character drama and movement. The original animator's drawing is transferred onto an acetate cel (either by hand-inking or photocopying). The cel is then flipped over and individually hand-painted on the reverse side. Thousands of animation cels are required to create just a few minutes of film. Each one is truly unique.

While many of the original hand-painted Looney Tunes production cels no longer exist, the talented artists of Warner Bros. Animation have recreated images directly from these classic films through the fine art of serigraphy. This image is hand-inked onto the master cel from which the serigrapher then creates silkscreened lines for the special limited edition. Hand cut screens are created for each of the vibrant colors of the sericel. This special limited edition sericel has been created to celebrate the opening of the Warner Bros. Gallery and is limited to 250 pieces.

The original master artwork will be vaulted in the Warner Bros. Animation Archives
