An impressive example of a original

World War One

Imperial German Stormtrooper's

Large Cast-Iron Shovel Head

as issued to

Elite German Infantry in

The Trenches of the Western Front in 1917-18

Excavated from German positions at Verdun on the banks of the River Meuse,

the Battle of Verdun was the longest in

The Great War

lasting from February 21st to December 16th 1916

With the shovel head measuring approx 14" in length

by 10" across and treated with a rust-inhibitor,

these very impressive large shovels were often stripped down

and worn under the Stormtrooper's tunics

in the form of armour against enemy fire.

In a superb restored condition,  this is

another superb surviving item as located on

The German Verdun Sector of the Great War..
