ONE SARGENT #5234 MORTISE LOCK with KEY - CIRCA 1900 FACEPLATE 5 1/2" (18577)

NOTE:  SARGENT #5234 & #5334 MORTISE LOCKS ARE INTERCHANGEABLE, THE ONLY PERCEPTIBLE DIFFERENCE IS THE LENGTH OF THE FACEPLATE, THE 5334 IS 1/16" SHORTER THAN THE 5332.  MOST PARTS, INCLUDING THE BOXES ARE INTERCHANGEABLE.  

Vintage:  Extremely well made, heavy duty mortise lock, very widely used by builders and carried by Sargent from about 1885 thru WWI. Victorian era, heavy brass face plate, clearly maker marked  SARGENT & CO., one of the foremost manufactures of American builders hardware in the late 19th and early 20th Century.

Brass front plate measures  5 1/2" by 15/16" wide.  1/8" thick brass. 

Box is 3 1/4" deep from the front edge of the face plate and it is 3 3/4" top to bottom.  Screws are on 4 3/4" centers.  Step back from the front of the front plate to the center of the knob post hole is 2 1/2". 

The lock is reversible, very clean, extremely well made, no rust, functions very well, with key!  Five of them available as the auction begins, a couple of them have small file marks on the thick brass face plates but not really noticeable and has no effect on the perfect function of the locks!
