East Asiatic Company: An ill-timed routes brochure from August 1939 for the Danish East Asiatic Company with a post-war update insert.

The eight-page brochure promotes the company's Bangkok and Japan lines. Interspersed among exotic destination images are eighteen ship and interior photos. East Asiatic (or Ostasiatiske Kompagni in Danish) suffered heavy losses in the war that would begin just weeks after this brochure was issued. However, the four ships featured here - SELANDIA of 1938, JUTLANDIA if 1934), KINA of 1939, and FIONIA of 1914 - all survived the war.

Of special interest is an insert dated 1947 slipped into the brochure. "Several of the ships mentioned in this booklet have been lost during the War," noted E.A.C., "but the equipment and general arrangement of those ships at present plying on our various routes correspond to the pictures shown herein ..." Actually only KINA was lost and that was during a typhoon in 1947.

Very good condition.
