Gilt on front board and spine is sharp. Boards have some bumping including corners and edges. Wear (scuffing) in edges and corners. Foot edge has a small visible red spot. Possibly color bleed from ribbon. Ribbon is frayed and the top of the ribbon is near breaking point. Some discoloration visible on Foot edge. The gilt on top text block appears dust stained. Pages and end papers are lightly age tanned. Some minor spotting visible on pages and end papers. No writing or marking. Binding is good.

Bottom front edges chipped. Wear (scuffing) in edges and corners. The gilt on top text block appears dust stained. Ribbon is included but ribbon is detached from the book. The foot end of the ribbon is frayed.Pages and end papers are age tanned and have some spotting / foxing. Dirty fingerprint visible on front free end paper. This volume has has red spotting on foot edge which is visible on bottom margin of pages. I think this is color bleed from the ribbon. Damp stain present on margin of pages where the red color is visible. Pencil mark visible on page before back free end paper. No other writing or marking seen. Fold out map visible in volume II. Binding is good.
