Product description:[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, produced using a retro belt-driven power loom system with 20 connected looms powered by a single motor. It originated from the Kurume Kasuri weaving factory established in 1948 during the Showa era. This fabric represents one of Japan's representative traditional textiles and is known for its soft and hand-woven-like texture.

The production process involves many manual steps, and it takes around 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 processes. Once woven, the fabric is subjected to a natural shrinkage of about 10% through a process of hot water treatment and air-drying. Kurume Kasuri is the ideal choice for those seeking to create a meticulously crafted masterpiece.

[Weaving Characteristics]
Kurume Kasuri is woven using the most basic weaving structure called "Hira-ori" or plain weave. Its distinctive feature lies in the "Kukuri" technique, which allows intricate patterns to be expressed. To emphasize this feature, the weaving structure is kept simple. However, when creating solid-colored fabrics that prioritize texture, the artisans experiment with different approaches. By adjusting the density balance of warp and weft threads within the framework of plain weave, they optimize the colors of both warp and weft threads. While the warp threads usually dominate in color reflection, in this fabric, they skillfully enhance the reflection of weft threads, creating intricate color intersections with warp threads serving as accents.

[About Bokashi Stripes]
"Bokashi Stripes" are achieved by using bright yellow in the weft threads, resulting in vibrant and lively colors. The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period.Bokashi stripes feature gradual color changes, creating a gradient effect. The fabric beautifully expresses the vibrant green shades of life, aiming to exude a sense of energy and dynamism when worn. The pattern is arranged in four sequences in relation to the fabric width, hence known as "Yottsu-dachi."
