The book is a collection of 91 humorous, "outlandish" sketches of events and daily life in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Here are a few examples of the stories:  "Sam Patterson's Balloon," "A Night of Terror," "Dining Under Difficulties," "Ode on a Flea," "Dudley and the Greased Pig," "Peeping Tom," and many more. Profusely illustrated with 183 drawings by Cox. There is also an illustrated title page with a frontispiece. From the Preface:  "Having carried the manuscript with me for a year, adding to its pages daily, it has grown too heavy for my pocket and I now saddle the public with the burden." Cox is best known for his "The Brownies" series of kindhearted fairy-like sprites.
