From investigating this item online we have found information to tell us that this vase / planter is a circa 1880 and it is part of a pair of Majolica vases crafted in France around 1880.

This one dictates a Blackamoor Boy with empty baskets standing on a raised platform with floral display behind him in the shape of a vase.

This item stands just under 19" tall x approx. 6" wide x approx. 7" deep.

The colours are mainly still quite bright and clear, there is wear of paint on this item as well as damage.

What we can see in regards to damage is:

large crack / broken section on top of vase, this has been put back into place / temp repair completed by previous owner
chip and crack on basket to front of item
paint wear on boys skin, so on his legs, feet, arms, hands and face as well as his black hair.
it looks like a different glaze was used on the skin and hair of the boy in comparison to the rest of the item as there isn't any evident paint wear on the remainder of the item (please note we are not experts, this is purely looking the item over by eye)

we have filled the vase section with 2 pints of water, which brings it up to the top of the tubular section of vase.  There were no evidence of leaks.

Please do look at the photographs in detail as they make up the main evidence of the condition of the item, we may not of noticed every little mark etc on the item so we so encourage you to zoom in on all photos to check for your own satisfaction before bidding.

The item can be seen/inspected before bidding in our Retford Offices during office hours, we also are happy for the buyer to collect the item in person rather than having the item delivered.

This is one of a pair of matching / similar vase in a set, the other is of a female blackamoor child.  The price advertised for sale for the pair in excellent condition is presently just over £2000.00 GBP online, this item is not in immaculate condition and is only one of the set so we have priced it as so.  Someone who has the expertise could make this item to very good condition again.

Our items are non-returnable and we will package very well, but we cannot be held responsible for damage in transit, the item will be insured, however a lot of couriers will not cover antiques or ceramics for breakage during transport.
