For sale is a sphere cut and polished from green Verdite also called African Jade, Green Stone of Africa or Buddstone. This rare mineral vein is stretching from Barberton in the northern part of South Africa to the untamed wilds of Zimbabwe, captures the mystery and beauty of an ancient part of Africa.
Verdite is a semi-precious stone over 3500 million years old and is only found in southern Africa amongst some of the oldest rocks in the world. Verdite can be yellowish-green, bluish-green or brownish. It often has spots or a swirled appearance. The green colour of verdite may appear bright or dull, depending on the chromium content.
The sphere's diameter is 53 mm, the weight is 220 g. On the sphere's surface is a couple of white patches, both are slightly rough when touched. The patches are Quartz inclusions.
