Voyageurs National Park, in Minnesota, was established in 1975. The park is named for the French-Canadian fur traders who were the first Europeans to explore and settle in the area. Voyageurs is located on the Canadian Shield, a large area of exposed bedrock that covers much of eastern Canada and the northern United States.
