2014 D, 2015 W, 2016 S, 2017 S ENHANCED SP69 Sacagawea Dollar + 2018 S Reverse Proof PR69 Sacagawea Native American Five Coin NGC 69 Certified Dollar Set

Up for sale is a set of NGC SP69 enhanced uncirculated Sacagawea Dollars from the 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017 special mint issued sets PLUS the special issue 2018 Reverse Proof NGC PR69 Sacagawea.  These five coins represent ALL of the special release Sacagawea coins released by the mint from 2014 to 2018 (there is also a 2019 P Enhanced Sacagawea coin released in a “Coin & Currency” set in 2019 that is NOT part of this set).  All of the coins in this set are graded by NGC as nearly flawless at NGC SP 69 (or NGC Proof 69 for the 2018 Reverse Proof).  The coins in the photo are the coins you will receive.  I have priced this set at significantly less than if one tried to purchase each of these five NGC 69 coins separately.  The 2015 W NGC SP69 coin is an “early release” designated coin and the 2017 S NGC SP 69 is a “first release” designated coin.

In 2014 the mint surprised collectors with an “enhanced” coin in the 2014 Coin & Currency Sets.  The enhanced Sacagawea was not available in any other mint products and the Coin & Currency set was limited to a mintage of 50,000.  The mint also did not let anyone know of a different coin in the Coin & Currency set than normal (i.e. normal being a regular circulation strike coin).  Once it was realized that a unique coin was in the 2014 Coin & Currency sets these sets quickly sold out.  The certified coin in this listing is one of the 50,000 coins with an “enhanced” finish that was part of a 2014 Coin & Currency Set.

In 2015 the mint followed on with the 2014 Coin & Currency Set with a 2015 dated Coin & Currency Set featuring an enhanced Sacagawea Dollar from the West Point Mint.  Mintage for the 2015 Coin & Currency Set was also limited, though in 2015 to 75,000 sets.  With the relatively low mintage the 2015 Coin & Currency Set was also a sell out.  The mint then completed their series of enhanced coins released from the four US mints through the Coin & Currency sets by releasing a 2016 enhanced Sacagawea from the San Francisco mint and a 2019 enhanced Sacagawea from the Philadelphia mint (note the 2019 P Enhanced coin is NOT in this set).  The 2016 enhanced Sacagawea coins were also limited in mintage to 75,000 (and sold out) through the Coin & Currency sets.

In 2017 the US mint released a 225th US Mint anniversary set which included enhanced uncirculated special finish coins from the San Francisco Mint for all of the major US coinage (i.e. penny, nickel, dime, etc) inclusive of a 2017 S Enhanced Uncirculated Sacagawea.  That set was limited to a mintage of 225,000 which quickly sold out.  In the set for sale there is a first release NGC SP69 Enhanced Uncirculated Sacagawea Dollar.

In 2018 the US mint released a 50th San Francisco Mint anniversary (50th anniversary of the beginning of proof coinage at the San Francisco Mint) set which included reverse proof coins from the San Francisco Mint for all of the major US coinage (i.e. penny, nickel, dime, etc) inclusive of a 2018 S Reverse Proof Sacagawea.  That set was limited to a mintage of 200,000 which quickly sold out.  In the set for sale there is a NGC Reverse Proof 69 Sacagawea Dollar.

A description of the designs in this set from the mint are as follows:

2014 - Native Hospitality

Coin commemorates how Native American hospitality ensures the success of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  Its reverse design depicts a Native American man offering a pipe while his wife offers provisions of fish, corn, roots and gourds.  In the background is a stylized image of the face of William Clark's compass highlighting "NW," the area in which the expedition occurred.  The design includes the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1.

2015 - MOHAWK Iron Workers

Coin commemorates the contribution of the Kahnawake Mohawk and Mohawk Akwesasne communities to "high iron" construction work and the building of New York City skyscrapers and bridges.

2016 - Code Talkers

The reverse of this coin features two helmets and inscriptions for WWI and WWII with two feathers forming a "V" to symbolize victory, unity and the importance of the code talkers program.

2017 - Sequoyah

The reverse of this coin commemorates the contributions of Sequoyah, inventor of the Cherokee Syllabary.

2018 - Jim Thorpe

This year's coin recognizes the accomplishments of Olympian and multi- talented athlete Jim Thorpe.  The reverse of this coin depicts Thorpe, with the foreground elements highlighting his football and Olympic achievements.  Inscriptions are "JIM THORPE," "WA-THO-HUK" (his native name), "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "$1."
