For sale is this lovable Ideal Toy Co. doll baby with a cloth body, rubber legs and arms, and compo head featuring a working voice box (squeaker) in the chest and the most charming flirty eyes in painted tin. The doll has very lightly molded hair painted a light auburn or blond color, with two painted teeth on the open red mouth and sweet little dimples. The doll is marked Ideal in a diamond with USA on the corners. The price tag attached to this doll by my late great aunt, owner of an antique store, says this doll is circa 1917, but I think it more likely to be the mid to late 1920s or early 1930s, based on its similarity to the Baby Smiles line of dolls. I don't think it's a Tickle Toes, as there does not appear to be a squeaker/noise maker in the legs.

This was clearly a MUCH loved doll for some little girl in the Depression era, perhaps the "Ann" whose name is written on the back of the doll's cloth body along with a date - 1932.

This doll has a lot of condition issues, starting with the squished, dried-out condition of the rubber arms and legs, with the legs showing the most obvious flattening effects. The paint on the doll's head is cracking and shedding, especially around the eyes and open mouth. The little soft spotted voile dress is also heavily stained.

This sweet doll came from the 1972 estate of my late great aunt, who owned an antique shop in Avilla, Indiana. That's her tag attached.
