This relief molded jug or pitcher titled Naomi and Her Daughters-in-Law in lavender on a white background is large, 11" high. The jug bears the printed mark of Samuel Alcock & Co. of England and the title and dates to about 1847.

The jug is pictured and described in "A Collector's Guide to Nineteenth-Century Jugs" Volume I, p. 61" by Kathy Hughes. "Naomi and her two daughters-in-law are pictured on each side of this lavender and white parian jug with scalloped base. Note how the dimensions of the jug have been changed from the norm and skillfully designed to meet the proportions and positioning of the figures. . . Biblical themes were common to this era."

The jug is in excellent antique condition, no cracks or chips. There are a couple of tiny black spots on the top, common in jugs of this age. The lavender and white combination in parian is very desirable.
