Atari 520ST PSU & SF314 FDD PSU "2in1". Atari 260ST PSU. Atari ST PSU.

Atari ST 520 & SF314 PSU by Electroware

The Atari 520ST (and 260ST) computers were originally equipped with external, big and heavy switching mode PSU. The original ~17W PSU was offering 5VDC@3A, 12VDC@0.03A & -12VDC@0.03A. The popular external FDD drive is using similar but smaller ~7W PSU offering 5VDC@0.72A and 12VDC@0.21A only. All of these PSUs have same problem nowadays: all are nearly 40 years old and not longer reliable because of capacitors degradation. Old power supply, if still working and showing acceptable voltage levels, can ba a source of killing over voltage spikes that will burn your chips due to the electrolytic capacitors "dry outs" and component's ageing. It's happening especially if PSU is working overloaded or FDD's old mechanic parts and are making more friction and resistance.

If your ATARI PSU is gone, not longer working, or you are not sure about it's condition - it's time to get a solid, superior quality "2in1" replacement. It's 50W (55W peak) of total combined output power: far more than two times stronger than original pair of Atari 520ST (260ST) PSU + SF415 / SF354 FDD PSU. It's three times smaller in dimensions and weight (only 0.4KG) to save your desk's space.

I believe your Atari ST is using many enchantments nowadays as fans and users are creating wonderful hardware stuff like FDD emulators (using SD Card), HDD drives with CF card, video output enhancers, VGA/HDMI RasPi adapters, WiFi serial modems, memory upgrades, accelerators etc... all to enjoy.  But remember that all of these gadgets are stressing the PSU and original one become even more dangerous when working overloaded.

Please notice that most of cheap PSU replacements for Atari 520ST (260ST) computers are usually missing the -12VDC voltage (used for RS-232-C serial port operations) basing on the fact that most users is never using this port, so... will never notice. Some of other popular replacements are stuffed with overrated gadgets but are missing the main On/Off switch - just to make te construction cheaper! Our philosophy is opposite: reliable PSU replacement needs to supply all three voltages (as per original specification) but offering more power on each line. The reliable, mechanical ON/OFF rocker switch is a must for computer health, overall safety and true energy saving when powered off (instead of pseudo stand-by modes).
