CHARLIE BROOKER’S BLACK MIRROR
; Interview: Maybe Netflix Will Bump Me Off Now...:
Charlie Brooker: Black Mirror is shorthand for ‘that’s a bit f***ed up.’
Charlie Brooker is back with a new series of Black Mirror. This time he’s biting the hand that feeds him.
Even at 52, Charlie Brooker is television’s angry young man — now, in his first series of Black Mirror for four years, he’s taking on the streamer that made him the Mystic Meg of TV. (Excellent 2-page interview with portrait; smaller images of Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett in Beyond the Sea, and Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek in Joan Is Awful are also displayed; Charlie Brooker stars on a striking cover page)
KIERAN CULKIN & SUCCESSION
; Article: Secrets of a Reluctant Superstar:
The final series of Succession belongs to Kieran Culkin, whose family background is even more messed up than Roman’s.
He used to be overshadowed by his brother, Macaulay. Now he is the big hit in Succession, which ends tomorrow. Who is Kieran Culkin, the oddball genius behind the show’s Roman Roy? (Interesting 2-page article showing a large image of Kieran with the cast of Succussion superimposed over the top and a smaller photo of Culkin with his brother, Macaulay, in 1991)
SUCCESSION
; Review: Pick of the Week: It is normal to feel bereft when a beloved television series finishes, but, as with The Sopranos, the knowledge that Succession is hurtling to an end also brings a slight sense of relief along with the grief. Spending time with the Roy family has been intensely stressful ever since the first episode of Jesse Armstrong’s Shakespearean super-rich satire, their endless manoeuvring and internecine manipulation so draining, so exhausting, that it’s just as well as the spectacular dialogue hits you like a triple-jolt of executive caffeine.
While their moral decay is forever represented by the bag of dead racoons stuffed up the chimney of their summer house in series two, Succession has sustained its dark brilliance... (Glowing 1-page review of Succession; includes a large shot of Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin in action)
