Zusammenfassung
Das Werk von Eva (Stricker-) Zeisel ist gut erforscht. Nur ihre Tätigkeit auf ihrer ersten Arbeitsstelle, der Hansa-Kunst-Keramik (HKK), in Hamburg zwischen November 1927 und Mai 1928 war bisher ein weißer Fleck. Durch Zugriff auf ihren Nachlass bei ihrer Tochter Jean Richards in New City sowie den Briefwechsel von Dr. Rüdiger Joppien, ehemals Direktor für die Moderne des Museums für Kunst und Gewerbe (MKG) in Hamburg, mit Zeisel aus dem Jahr 1995 war es nun möglich, Zeisels Arbeiten in den sieben Monaten bei der HKK genauer zu beleuchten.
Zeisels Arbeiten bei der HKK wie Service, Lampenfüße, Schalen, Dosen und Vasen lassen sich nun entweder eindeutig benennen oder ihr ein größeres Konvolut zuschreiben.Abstract
The work of Eva (Stricker-) Zeisel is well
described.
Only her activity at her first job at the Hansa-Kunst-Keramik (HKK)
in Hamburg from November 1927 to May 1928 has been a blank spot.
The
possibility to study the estate at Eva´s daughter Jean Richards in New York and
the correspondence between Zeisel and Dr. Rüdiger Joppien, former director of
the Museum for Art and Crafts (MKG) in Hamburg enabled the author to enlighten
Zeisel´s works at the HKK in detail.
Zeisel`s designs for HKK as services, lamp bases, bowls, boxes, ashes, vases, candle sticks and animal figures can
now be named definitely or a larger lot to her attributed.
It can be observed that Zeisel´s work at
HKK in Hamburg (11/1927 - 5/1928) has been an artistic interphase between her designs from Budapest, which
are orientated at the Hungarian folk art, and her avantgardistic designs for the Majolikafabrik
Schramberg (11/1928 – 12/1930). Beside some relics from the Hungarian folk art
her designs at Hamburg show already astonishing geometric forms.
Zeisel transfers in an unusual large scale the ideas of abstraction as they
have been presented by the Cubism at that time, although she implemented them
later at Schramberg in an essential more radical way. Until she moved in 1931
in her works for Carstens Hirschau to more harmonic and softer forms, she
pursues from 1932 in the USSR.
