Basil seeds come from a variant of basil known as sweet basil (Ocimum bascilicum), which is native to the tropical regions of Asia and Africa. These seeds are known by several names such as sweet basil seeds, Sabja seeds, Tulsi seeds,tukmaria seeds or Falooda seeds based on their type. They are oval shaped, hard but very lightweight, small, but not super tiny, black in color, and swell up when soaked in water, producing a gelatinous mass and has a mild, nutty flavor.
Basil seeds can be added to a wide range of dishes, including drinks, smoothies, salads, soups, desserts, and baked goods.
They have a long history of use in Ayurvedic and they are consider a superfood.
It is a good source of minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron amongst many others, and they are rich in plant compounds, including flavonoids and other polyphenols.They have gained popularity as a superfood due to their potential health benefits.
