What is an embroidery
chart?
An embroidery
chart encompasses all the details you need
to stitch your project. The chart can
tell you what kind of thread to use, the components you may need, and the
potential threads you can pick for your project.
For eras, charts have been natively and commercially
available for creating embroidery designs, especially in cross stitch
designing.
Until the middle of the nineteenth century, colored
diagrams in Europe and America had to be hand painted to direct the correct
colors.
Later in the time, machine produced charts became available
and are still popular to this day. With the introduction of machines, it opened
a variety of projects to pick from.
There are numerous styles of embroidery and cross stitch
applications, this is just one of many. Naturally, most people feel their skill
set and style is best when it comes to embroidery, that is, using a chart, or
not, though some people could care less. Regardless, others just want a nice
piece of art to work with and implement into their artistic project.
This crewel piece is from a collection of vintage
embroidery designs. It’s lightweight and frameable, and with the right frame,
it will look fantastic.
The measurements are listed as the
perimeter of the piece and the right frame would most likely be smaller and
tighter fitting.
There is a stitch around the perimeter
and possibly loose hanging threads around the border. There is room to tighten
the embroidery when framing it.
The photographs include both sides of
the piece, allowing you to look at the stitch combinations and how the piece
originated.
