ORIGINAL wax seal of the 1st division of the Gendarmerie regiment of the period of the Russian Tsar Nicholas I.

In 1815, the Gendarme Regiment was created in the Russian Imperial Army.

The Gendarmerie Regiment was entrusted with the function of military-police service under the army units, for which the regiment's units were seconded to various military corps of the Army.

On May 5, 1834, the divisions of the regiment were distributed: the 1st division - with the Active Army, the 2nd division and the reserve squadron - with the 1st Army, the 3rd division, divided into teams - at the headquarters of the Grenadier, 1-6 infantry, 1 -3 reserve and consolidated cavalry corps.

By 1861, the 1st division of the Gendarme Regiment was serving at the Headquarters of the 1st Russian Army.

On January 21, 1861, the Gendarme Regiment was ordered to be abolished.

Translation of the inscription on the wax seal:

"Gendarme regiment of the 1st division".
