Rare Victorian chromolithograph print, from a folio of plates from Robinson's Treasury of Ornament, the book is one of the great nineteenth century studies in pattern and design. The book was widely seen as encyclopedic in its scope, giving a chronological, analytical and comprehensive view of developments in ornamentation from Ancient Egyptian and Grecian Art to seventeenth and eighteenth century Baroque and rococo motifs, the original books are now exceptionally rare with early 19th C editions fetching in excess of $2500.This is an original plate from one of the early books, published in 1857, not to be confused with the modern reprinted versions widely available.
