VINTAGE 50S RED WHITE & BLUE SPRINGOLATOR MULES SIZE 7 / 7.5 ALMOST NEW SPRING-O-LATORS

Bob and Cathy parked their Chrysler in the country club lot, then climbed the granite stairs to enter the building. The reception to celebrate Barry's retirement was being held in the Great Room, but most of the early guests were out on the wide wooden deck and the concrete patio, sipping cocktails and wine. Silver platters with hors d'oeuvres were carried through the crowd by white-jacketed servers. It was a beautiful late-summer day, and the grass on the 18th green below the garden almost seemed to glow as the club-logo flag moved gently in the breeze.

They didn't see Barry anywhere, but they had just selected their glasses of wine when Barbara, his daughter, swept up to greet them and thank them both for coming. She wore a white mid-length V-neck cotton dress with a blue belt, complemented by a red beaded necklace with matching earrings. Cathy glanced down, then took a longer look as she saw Barbara's red, white and blue Springolators, colors she'd never seen before in this elegant style. It was a perfect look for the event.

It would be a perfect look for so many events that summer and fall.

"How long should I wait," Cathy asked herself, "before I ask Barbara where she found those shoes?"

                                                                         * * *

We don't know who originally owned these beautiful vintage mules, but they may have graced just this kind of celebration in the era that runs from Elvia Pressley up through the eary Beatles hits.

They are not perfect, but these beautiful 1950s garden party Springolator mules are in remarkable condition compared to what you normally encounter with these shoes, especially for light colors. Enlarge the photos and you'll see that there are only a few minor defects. These heels will earn you tons of compliments. In 1957 or 1962 these would have been an elegant fashion statement for any hostess.

These shoes have been stored indoors in a climate-controlled non-smoking home for the last 30 years. (Since the start of the pandemic we have run multiple air filters in our home as well.) We hate to part with these but we're running out of space.

Note: Beth Levine invented Spring-o-lator mules as well as clear acrylic shoes and other innovations. She was an early feminist in the fashion industry, and changed fashion forever when she introduced boots that were elegant and could be worn on many occasions. Prior to her designs boots for women were solely used as bad weather gear.

ABOUT VINTAGE SHOES AND CLOTHING

Here are things to remember when buying vontage articles:

1. These are used items. Even those in excellent condition may still show some small signs of wear, defects, fading, snags, loose threads etc. Items that are in "good" vintage condition (anywhere you read descriptions of clothing, shoes etc. for sale) are likely to have visible wear or other issues. Enlarge and examine the photos carefully -- we take these detailed shots so you can see any imperfections.

2. Marked sizes are often different from modern sizes, sometimes significantly so. Check measurements carefully, comparing them to articles that fit you well, to determine if this item will fit properly.

3. Older items may be better-manufactured than modern ones and often are hand made, but their age can also make them more vulnerable to tears, torn stitches etc.

4. If you have any questions we're happy to answer them before you buy. We do not take returns.
