BRECCIA CHERT CONGLOMERATE SLICE WESTERN AUSTRALIA 152 X 97 X 8 MM 240 G

This Breccia Chert or Conglomerate comes from the Mid West region of Western Australia. Breccia is a term used for clastic sedimentary rocks that are comprised of large angular fragments (over two millimetres in diameter). The spaces between the large angular fragments are filled with a matrix of smaller particles and a mineral cement that binds the rock together.

Breccia and Conglomerate are very similar rocks. They are both clastic sedimentary rocks comprised of fragments larger than two millimetres in diameter. The difference is in the shape of the large fragments. In Breccia the large fragments are angular in shape but in Conglomerate the fragments are rounded.

This slab exactly reflects the above description, and consists of angular and rounded fragments. The colours are white, grey, brown and red.

The slab measures 152 x 97 x 8 mm at the widest points, and weighs 240 g.
