  • Beschreibung: Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde Orscha von deutschen Truppen am 16. Juli 1941 eingenommen. Die Besatzer errichteten ein Zwangsghetto für die jüdischen Bewohner der Stadt und der Umgebung. Am 26. und 27. November 1941 wurden 1800 Menschen von einer deutschen Kommandoeinheit ermordet. Vom Krieg im Osten erzählen die Pastelle und Aquarelle von Werner Diez erstaunlicherweise höchst selten. Dieses Blatt ist eines der wenigen, das die Zerstörung des Krieges zeigt. Rechts unten signiert und datiert.

  • Description: During the Second World War, Orscha was captured by German troops on 16 July 1941. The occupiers established a forced ghetto for the Jewish inhabitants of the town and the surrounding area. On 26 and 27 November 1941, 1800 people were murdered by a German commando unit. Surprisingly, Werner Diez's pastels and watercolours rarely tell of the war in the East. This sheet is one of the few showing the destruction of war. Signed and dated lower right.
