Pre 1850s handmade kiln floor handmade brick from the 1800s Ore Knob Copper Mine, Ashe County, North Carolina, USA. Historical registered mine history and information can be found online on most search engines. Listing is for one single brick, each brick will vary in looks, shape and measurements. Photos show three different bricks for example of bricks that are available, one in very good shape, one that looks more burnt and one that has broken away on the corner from a piece of quartz that is embedded in it. All bricks are handmade and from the mining operation and the surrounding material with rocks embedded to some degree. You can choose from the three shown or request a certain number of bricks. Limited supply with exact number available is uncertain. Only a few exist. If you would like more than one, please feel free to contact me for combined shipping. The red one that shows the least aging and heat shrinkage measures 7 in, x 7 in. x 2 3/4 in. The greyish color brick that shows more heat exposure one has uneven measurements 7 1/2 in. x 7 1/2 in x 2 3/4 in. These measurements vary point to point. The one with quartz inclusion that has a broken away point is 6 1/4 in. x 7 in. x 2 5/8 in. Inclusions of other rock material can be seen in most of the bricks. No two are exactly the same. The average weight per full brick is between 8 and 9 pounds, more or less on each. If you would like a pick of the three in the photos, please specify which one you would like. I also have pre 1860 smelter bricks from the same mine available in a separate listing. Some of these bricks unmarked crude bricks could and most likely are older and predate the mine operational opening. Later middle 1800s handmade Savage 1 stamped fire bricks from the mine are also listed, Savage 1 handmade bricks are the first for the Savage company and were made in the year 1860.
