The Navvies

by Alan Fearnley

A group of navvies engaged in the backbreaking work of digging a cutting and laying track with only picks, shovels and crowbars during the latter part of the railway building age.

The location is very loosely based on an old photograph of a bridge under construction on the Whitby to Scarborough line. Also shown on the photograph is the contractor's little saddle-tank locomotive with its strange wooden buffers and attractive tall chimney and spectacle windows.

Beautiful picture framed in an A4 (30 x 21 cm, 12 x 8.3 inch) size frame.

The picture offered does NOT have the "SAMPLE" watermark!!
