About the book >.>.> Although quite a number of combat and transport vehicles survived from both World Wars, notably in military museums, it was not until the late 1960s that preservation of World War II vehicles by private collectors started in earnest. Today many thousands of wheeled, tracked and half-tracked vehicles of that period are in the possession of individuals (and an increasing number of museums) all over the world. Many owners have organized themselves in clubs; rallies and other events have become commonplace. Ownership and vehicle types range from a single pushbike to huge collections of a hundred or more, either secluded or accessible to the public. Quality of restoration also varies, from mediocre to better-than-ever. Almost as important as owning a vehicle is the possession of relevant literature: an MV is hardly complete without the authentic technical manuals and parts list originally issued for it. Over the years a vast amount of newly-written and compiled literature has also flooded the market. It is all part of the widespread interest and effort in preserving for posterity and for personal enjoyment the self-propelled artefacts particularly of the Second World War, an era which made such an enormous impact on life in our twentieth century.
