1766-MO MF Colonial Mexico 8 Real

Spanish Colonial Pillar Dollar, 26.75g

AU Details, Cleaned

A meaty, lustrous, and handsomely detailed entry level piece that gives a lot of the bang, without the buck. Cleaned but attractive. An old-time scrubbing left moderate hairlines over each side when turned under the light. The surfaces have since toned over in an appealing soft gold and apricot to russet patina over each side. Uncleaned, this would have been nearly $1000.

Spanish Colonial 8 Real coins, or Pieces of Eight, were legal tender in the US until 1857, and they circulated heavily in Early America.
