This ship in a bottle style art contains a ship's cannon was built by world renowned artist, Jonny Heinrich Reinert, who appeared many times in the Guinness Book of World Records. He was dubbed as the "King of the Bottleships." As you view the pictures and read the description below you will understand his world-wide recognition and renown as being one of he best ever.

This is a beautiful depiction of a Dutch 12 pounder cannon of the 17 century. Further, it is displayed mounted on a cross section of a ships hull and deck. The 12-pounder long gun was an intermediary caliber piece of artillery mounted on warships of the Age of sail. They were used as main guns on the most typical frigates of the early 18th century, on the second deck of fourth-rate ships of the line, and on the upper decks or castles of 80-gun and 120-gun ships of the line.

This cannon generally has the form of a truncated cone and is mounted on a carriage with transom, front and rear axle trees with trucks, bed with side cheeks and quoin (wedge). The barrel is built with the breech, first reinforcement, second reinforcement and chase. There is a pommelion or cascabel, breech moldings, base ring, flash pan, reinforcement rings, trunnion, muzzle astragal, throat, muzzle swelling muzzle molding, bore, and hinged cap squares or securing clamps for the trunnions. There are four cannon balls near the quoin. What about that detail!

The detail and quality continues with the deck and the stand. The deck is individually planked and outlined with a dark colored rope. Under the deck inside the bottle is hand written: "Fur meinen lieber freund Hans Euuler teachr(?) Jonny Reinert 23.4.95."  In the neck of the bottle is a plaque with the following: "Hollandische 12-Pfunder Kanone. 17, Jahrhundert."  The wooden stopper and the stand are intricately carved and custom made to support the bottle's form. You just don't get any better than this.

This is likely the first opportunity on American eBay to buy an amazing bottle by the "King of the Bottleships," Jonny Reinert. Now deceased, he was recognized as one of the best bottleship builders in the world. It is rare indeed to find one of his bottles in a public offering. It will be the highlight of any Folk Art, Nautical or Whimsy Collection.

About the Artist:  Jonny Heinrich Reinert was born on May 19, 1929 in Herne, Germany, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Ruhr area.  He died on August 22, 2004.

His love for building ships in bottles developed in the late 1950’s. He was a self-taught artist who continually worked to master new techniques and build each bottle more perfect than the one before.  Over the years he elevated his ships in bottles to the highest level of detail and accuracy.

Between 1967 and 1972, he worked for the Buddelschiff-Museum in Neuhorlingersiel where he had 98 of his ships in bottles on permanent display.  Other examples of his work are in Cuxhaven Duhnen in L?thel Schiffsmuseum.

On August 13, 1982 he set his first world record for a ship built in the largest bottle and became listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. Then, on September 15, 1985, he again set a new record with his ship, a whaling scene, built in a hand-blown 129 liter bottle. Among the many materials he used were fine woods, brass, and cow bone. The parts for his ships were built outside the bottle and then he assembled the many individual parts in the bottle, with the final product often ten to twenty times larger than the opening of the bottleneck.

In addition to his ships in bottles, Reinert built whole maritime representations in bottles.  Along with his museum models, some of the original architectural drawings by Jonny Reinert are displayed in numerous museums and private collections (including H.-J. Kulenkampff, King Juan Carlos I of Spain) - Maritime Museum at Brake Unterweser.

Reinert built over 800 models in his lifetime, ranging in size from a 0.7 l brandy bottle for a container to his world record of building in a 129 L bottle. He appeared many times in the Guinness Book of World Records, and he has been dubbed the “King of the Bottleships.”

Opportunities to own his bottles are extremely rare and this may be your only chance to add one of his works to your collection. You won't be disappointed with this rare and amazing bottle!
