"Madness" was released in March 1973. This major concept album, which focuses on the tension and oppression of modern society and the madness lurking within the human heart, became the band's first to reach number one on the US charts. After that, it remained in the rankings for 741 weeks and sold over 50 million copies worldwide, making it a masterpiece in rock history. It also reached number 2 on the UK charts. The single "Money" also reached number 13 in the US. The ultimate sound world created by the band and engineer Alan Parsons is a masterpiece. The iconic jacket artwork, with its motif of a prism of light, was designed by Storm Torgerson of Hypnosis and drawn by graphic designer George Hardy. Originally included in the 50th anniversary box set of Madness, this is the first time it has been released separately on CD and LP.
