The program is in great condition with the exception of a single page that has writing on an advertisement.  Otherwise it has little wear, it is as nice as the day it was bought.  Numerous photos were taken to assist with the condition and content of the program.

The 11th Annual Southern 500 was held at Darlington Raceway on September 5, 1960.  The race was held on the hottest day ever for the race, with temperatures in the mid 90's.  Leading the field to the green flag was Fireball Roberts in the Smokey Yunick prepared #22 Pontiac before 80,000 fans.

Buck Baker, Fireball Roberts, and Richard Petty  took a caution with 20 laps to go setting up a tremendous finish.  Unfortunately, both Roberts and Petty had trouble in the last few laps.  Baker, cruising to victory, blew a tire with a lap and a half remaining and spun.  Rex White would take the checkered, but it was later determined that Baker completed 500 miles first and was declared the winner.  Finishing second was White, followed by Jim Paschal, Emanuel Zervakis, and Ned Jarrett.

Earlier in the race, the car of Bobby Johns brushed another car and went into the unprotected pit area.  The flying concrete resulted in the deaths of two mechanics and a NASCAR official, along with several injuries.
