For your consideration is this oil lamp I purchased in the early 1990s at a Kansas City flea market. I received a very knowledgeable opinion it was a 19th century Byzantine or Syrian oil lamp in the tradition of 5th century. he told me they made a lot of these in the 19th century. Just in case he got it wrong, I'm circa dating it 19th or 20th century. Although it looks bronze, he told me it was brass which I think is right because there are a few places of exposed metal the color is more yellow than brown. But, I will have to let the experts decide for sure the country, age, style and the like.

No matter what it is a great decorative display piece of the ancient world. I particularly like the Byzantine face on the lid which I think makes it a lot cooler than a few others I've seen. It measures approximately 8-1/8" high and 12"long. The middle of the tailpiece, the widest point, is approximately 4-3/8" wide.
