Kay 500 Black Roses Vintage Acoustic Dreadnought Guitar. In good playable condition. Black Mahogany back and sides.  With dual Black Roses scratchboard. Some blemishes commensurate with age. No obvious fret wear.

These vintage guitars are really good quality and very much sought after amongst players and collectors. At over 40 years old, the woods on this guitar have aged and mellowed nicely; fantastic tones, a rich sound with plenty volume and loads of sustain. It really sounds excellent.

Will appeal to both players and collectors. Click on the images for closer detailing.

A really cool 1976 Vintage Kay Model K500  Acoustic Guitar.

This guitar is well preserved. It is all original. It plays well.

It has a Spruce laminated top with Mahogany back and sides. The brass frets are still in great shape. You can see the Kay label inside the sound hole. Very cool.

These guitars were found in the Kay catalogs starting in 1976 thru 1982. They were discontinued after that. Made in Korea and are of very high quality. Very pleasant player that sounds really good.

Here is some history on the Kay Company that might be of interest.

Decline on Katz-era (1955–1968)

After the retirement of Kuhrmeyer in 1955, the company was taken over by Sidney M. Katz. The product line of Kay was shifted toward electric musical instruments on demands, and in 1964, the company moved to a new factory in the Chicago area. In 1965 Katz sold Kay to Seeburg Corp.  and he became the head of Seeburg's musical instrument division. In 1967, Kay was resold and merged with Valco,  but dissolved in 1968 due to financial problems.

Revive (1969–present)

The assets of Kay/Valco were auctioned off in 1969. The upright bass and cello lines were sold to a new company formed by a previous Valco member, which has continued production. The Kay name (and some of its trademarks were acquired by Teisco importer, Weiss Music (W.M.I., Sol Weindling and Barry Hornstein), who put the Kay name on the Teisco products beginning in 1973, and continued on through the 1970s.

In 1980, Tony Blair purchased the Kay trademark.

Cool vintage guitar that is infinitely playable. Hard to find a vintage playable guitar today for under $300.00 today. Sorry no original case for this one but I pack Professionally to make sure your cool guitars show up safely either near or far.

Sold as-is no returns as its vintage and used…however, I have been hand picking my customers instruments and all loved the guitars I found for them. This cool Kay will certainly not be an exception.
