Mid-Century Modern American melamine serving tray by American Illustrator Kelly Oechsli for Waverly Products. The octagonal rectangular, 20" long, white, substantial melamine tray with 2 slightly extended handles, features a lively allover illustration in red, blue, gold and black, "Sea Food," replete with fish, crabs, lobsters, boats, fishmongers and seafood shops, by the noted commercial artist, illustrator, and children's book author, Kelly Oechsli (1918-1999.) The tray features Oechsli's signature in the lower right hand corner, and is stamped in a circular brand on the bottom side, "Waverly Products, Consolidated Molded Products Corporation, Organized 1874." The bottom molded edge footing of the tray shows a tiny bit of nicking, but is hardly noticeable, and does not affect the functionality of the tray--it is a minor flaw--see photos. All told, the tray is in excellent pre-owned, vintage condition--the graphics are still quite strong, and the surface shows little use. A great serving piece for entertaining, serving cocktails and chilled fresh oysters and shrimp, and a lovely element to display solely for home decor.
