This is for an original August 1942 issue of Calling All
Girls Comic #9 which was published by Parents Magazine Institute. The cover
features actress Joan Leslie holding an American Flag just months after
starring in Yankee Doodle Dandy alongside James Cagney which was released on
Memorial Day in 1942. August 1942 would be an industry wide flag month as most
comics and pulps would have a flag on their cover or a sticker of the flag
saying “United We Stand”. This particular issue is in nice condition and the
scan is of the actual comic and not a stock photo. Clean and tight, the book
has just the slightest bit of spine roll and some type of small ink stain on one
of the soldiers on the back cover advertising the movie “Ten Gentlemen from
West Point”. A tough to find book and
about as patriotic as you can hope to find. Calling All Girls would run for 89
issues from 1941 until 1949. Issue #43 would be the last issue to contain
comics and after issue 89, number 90 would become a girls magazine called
Senior Prom. An extremely tough to find book in nice condition. None have been
graded by CGC so here is your chance to submit the first. With a bit of cover
cleaning this would look beautiful.
