Just 3,000 of these exclusive hundred dollar notes were printed.

When polymer technology was introduced to Australia's circulating currency between 1988 and 1996, world-wide demand for Australian notes sky-rocketed.

Note Printing Australia (NPA) introduced a range of collector products featuring the last of the old paper notes and the first of the new polymer notes, and these were hugely popular.

The most popular (of the many!) products released by NPA were the "First and Last" folders.

These were released on the same day each new polymer denomination was issued into circulation - a very limited number had the date embossed on the cover of the folder.

The $100 standard "First and Last" folders didn't actually include a paper $100 note in them, so why they continued to call them "First and Last" folders is beyond me - logic such as that was no doubt beyond the NPA's eventual exit from the collector market in Australia.

They are keenly sought by collectors, and are regarded as being a reasonable equivalent to "mint" coin sets - the notes included are the same as those that could be obtained from circulation, but remain in "mint" condition.

It's crazy the price you can get these folders for relative to the catalogue value of the individual notes they contain.

This folder includes one of the one of the first polymer Fraser Evans $100 notes - just 3,000 were released with the special date overprint on the reverse.
